Screeching guitars, high speed drum bursts, and raw vocals are all trademarks of the Slayer sound.
Slayer lyrics are very explicit and touch on dark subjects like death, war, violence, torture, satanism, and serial killers.
Slayer was formed in Los Angeles in 1982 by Tom Araya (vocals, bass), Kerry King (guitar), Jeff Hanneman (guitar), and Dave Lombardo (drums).
Except for a few episodes without Dave Lombardo at the drums Slayer has been together for more than 25 years.
Since their debut album Show No Mercy (1983) Slayer has released 9 albums and 1 cover album.
With Reign in Blood (1986) Slayer produced the most extreme and controversial Trash Metal album of all time. Especially the evocation of the Nazi death camps in the song Angel of Death has been harshly criticized by some.
The next Slayer album is due for release in 2008 or 2009.
